Kangaroo Island and Coorong National Park Tour

Day 1 Leave the busy Adelaide city district behind and embark on an exceptional Coorong and Kangaroo Island Tour with great wildlife encounters, unspoilt wilderness and local produce at its best. We travel to Goolwa, the Gateway to the wetlands of the Coorong National Park and the Murray River Lake system.

All on-board an Eco Cruise to discover Coorong wildlife, wetlands, sand dunes and the Great Southern Ocean. We cruise to the Goolwa Barrage, through the lock and into the Coorong to view the mouth of the Murray River. Stop for a guided walk through the sand dunes of the Younghusband Peninsula and learn about the cockle industry and flora and fauna of the region. We have lunch back on board the vessel and cruise deeper into the Coorong. Take the fabulous guided walk at Cattle Point and learn more about the Aboriginal history of the area. Then we cruise back passing through towering sand dunes and through the lock to Goolwa wharf.

After a fabulous day in the Coorong National Park we drive to Cape Jervis and catch the late ferry to Penneshaw. It is only a short 45 minute ferry ride and we arrive on Kangaroo Island. We stay overnight in Penneshaw or Kingscote and wake up in the morning ready for our discovery. Kangaroo Island is a paradise for animal lovers, bird watchers, photographers, artists and is an absolutely must visit while in South Australia.

Day 2 Today we travel to the Eucalyptus Distillery. Emu Ridge is the only commercial Eucalyptus Distillery in South Australia. Learn about the distillery process and browse their extensive shop of oils, creams, sweets and gifts. Kangaroo Island is home to the only pure strain of Ligurian Bee in the world and have remained disease free. Having a taste of this delicious honey is not to be missed.

The seals are waiting for us basking in the sun at Seal Bay. Enjoy a guided tour with a very knowledgeable park ranger and get up close to these beautiful mammals for amazing photographs. We round up our day with the Birds of Prey Show at Raptor Domain. Listen to the successful bird rehabilitation stories of Dave and Leeza Erwin during the free-flight bird presentation. It is time to make our way to our accommodation for a delicious dinner and a peaceful night.

Day 3 You would have already discovered by now that Kangaroo Island is the unique marriage of mouth melting flavours, breathtaking scenery, pristine environment and exceptional wildlife. Today we show you the wonders of Flinders Chase National Park. One of the most iconic features are the Remarkable Rocks, a cluster of granite boulders with golden orange lichen. Walk around them, through them and take plenty of photographs before we head to Admirals Arch. Massive natural forces have formed this incredible and unusual landmark here. Observe a colony of New Zealand fur seals from the viewing platform and boardwalk around Admiral's Arch.

Kangaroo Island is not only a haven for seals, we will see glorious birds, kangaroos, possums, echidnas, koalas in the wild. We continue our incredible day to to see the great sights of the underground Kelly Hill Caves. Beneath the vast expanse of native bushland we discover treasures of impressive stalagmites, stalactites, helictites and straws. Enjoy another dinner and night at the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat.

Day 4 Start the day with a drive to Vivonne Bay, a long sandy beach with a picturesque wooden jetty and beautiful turquoise water below. The sand dunes of Little Sahara are our next stop this morning. A steep climb up the dunes is rewarded by amazing views and photo opportunities. On Kangaroo Island it is as much about the local produce and wine as it is about the vast wilderness. The freshness, quality and flavour of Kangaroo Island's produce feeds not only your body but also your mind. For lunch we take travel to the Andermel Marron Farm. Even though the marron were originally from Western Australia they are now a Kangaroo Island icon and we will try some of the freshwater crayfish for lunch.

We continue to the Island Pure Sheep Dairy. Smooth and creamy yoghurt, silky textured haloumi and handmade feta cheese are some of the many premium products at Island Pure. Our belly full of a tasty lunch and cheese, we around it up with a visit to the Bay of Shoals winery. Indulge in some cooler climate wines overlooking the magnificent ocean scenery. Bay of Shoals cheeky pelican label has become widely known and there is some great art work on display too.

With some time up our sleeves we check out the local souvenir shops and galleries in Kingscote. We finish the day with first class wildlife entertainment. The Pelican Man provides a lively and informative talk while the pelicans are being fed. It is comical and entertaining for all ages and if you love pelicans, you will love the Pelican Man!
