Coober Pedy Tour Itinerary
Day 1) Along the explorer highway out through the Stuarts Range lies the underground town of Coober Pedy. Once just a rocky, dusty desert plain and now the Opal Mining Capital of the World. As our journey takes us closer the town will open up to us and let forth some of its secrets. Check into your underground motel with a lookout over the whole town. After settling in we head into the main street for a 100 year street party.

Day 2) Hard to know the sun is up when you sleep underground, but trust your stomach will tell you it is breakfast time. Today we explore Coober Pedy and its surrounds. Visit a working Opal mine and see just how it's done, walk into an underground church, experience the unique style of underground homes and check out the local art gallery. Tonight you might like to dress up and join the 100 Year Ball, the premier event of the Coober Pedy Centenary Celebrations. (Ball entrance fee not included)

Day 3) The Opal Festival starts today and we join in. Learn more about the qualities of opal and try your luck at noodling for opal in the town's mullock piles. Watch a film on how opal is formed and now you are as knowledgeable as you could possibly be on what it is that makes a good quality opal. Time to check out the local stalls and marquees of the festival and listen to the local music performances in your own time. We will join back for a sunset tour to the Breakaways and another delicious dinner.

Day 4) Time to wave goodbye to this very unique township and we travel back down the highway to Port Augusta. Walk onto a crystal white salt lake and see the Woomera Rocket Range. Arrive in Port Augusta late afternoon and check into your room. We will spend the night here and dine out at the Ian's Western Hotel.

Day 5) Spend the morning at the award winning Wadlata Outback Centre and we leave just before lunch. We continue our journey with a pleasant drive through the Clare Valley before arriving in Adelaide around 4pm. (breakfast, lunch)
