Lake Eyre Tour Route via Coober Pedy, William Creek and Roxby Downs

4 Days/3 Nights Itinerary

Day 1) Today we will pick you up from your Adelaide city hotel and travel along the Explorer Highway to Coober Pedy. We break for lunch in Port Augusta before we continue your journey to Lake Hart. Walk onto a crystal white salt lake, making this our first salt lake experience on this tour. Then its onto the last stretch to Coober Pedy, which was once just a rocky, dusty desert plain and is now the opal mining capital of the world. We will check into our underground accommodation and join back for a delicious dinner. (Lookout Cave Motel, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 2) Coober Pedy is a very bizarre town and we start the day with a tour to the colourful Breakaways followed by an opal mine tour. Learn about this beautiful gem stone and look at some spectcular samples. After lunch we travel to South Australia's smallest town William Creek. We arrive mid afternoon with plenty of time to check out this remote and unique area. Relax and unwind in your en-suited cabin or join the locals for an ice cold beer before our dinner at the William Creek Hotel. (William Creek En-suited Cabins, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 3) Today we take the stunning scenic flight over Lake Eyre. Our special two hour flight will take you over Lake Eyre and the very top of the lake. The recent rain has brought the desert, flowers and wildlife back to a high and it is truly a wonderful landscape to see. All the different colours and surfaces, we have seen many birds, donkeys, wild camels and dingoes in the past. After our unforgettable flight we drive along the Oodnadatta Track to South Lake Eyre. Walk to the edge of the lake or enjoy the views from the information bay. Be amazed by the endless horizon and witness the vast inland, loneliness and incredible nature. Then it is time to take the turn off to Roxby Downs, the purpose built town that services the mining area of Olympic Dam. We arrive in Roxby mid afternoon and have time to refresh in the hotel's pool before our final night dinner. (Roxby Downs Motor Inn, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner)

Day 4) Time to wave goodbye to the remote areas of South Australia. We travel back down the highway to Adelaide and our journey takes us pass the well-known Woomera Rocket Range. Check out the Missile Park and listen to Len Beadells story as we travel further south. We break for lunch in Port Augusta, where the outback meets the ocean before driving the last leg of our journey to Adelaide, arriving by 4.30pm. (Breakfast, Lunch)
